Chief Complaint
Patient reports pain and swelling related to tooth #28, which has grossly carious retained roots.
Clinical Findings
Tooth #28 has gross carious retained roots. The patient experiences significant pain and swelling.
Treatment Plan
Removal of the retained roots of tooth #28 under local anesthesia.
Pre-operative Assessment
Pre-op CBCT was taken to assess the situation.
Risks of oral antral fistula (OAF) and other potential complications were discussed with the patient.
Informed consent was obtained.
Anesthesia
Local anesthesia (LA) infiltration was administered around tooth #28.
Surgical Procedure
Patient was cleaned and draped.
An incision was made, and a buccal flap was raised.
Bone guttering was performed, and the tooth was sectioned.
Tooth #28 was elevated out in two pieces.
Pus was drained, and the area was curetted and irrigated with saline.
BSS x 02 was placed for primary closure.
Haemostasis was achieved.
