Chief Complaint
Patient reports pain and swelling associated with a buried and deeply horizontally impacted tooth #48. The patient requested removal of tooth #48.
Clinical Findings
Tooth #48 is buried and deeply horizontally impacted. The patient exhibits significant pain and swelling.
Treatment Plan
Surgical removal of tooth #48 under local anesthesia.
Pre-operative Assessment
Pre-op CBCT was reviewed to assess the impact of the tooth.
Risks of paraesthesia to the lower lip and tongue were explained.
The patient was informed of the procedure and gave informed consent.
Anesthesia
Local anesthesia (LA) block was administered to the right IDN, LN, and LBN.
Surgical Procedure
The patient was cleaned and draped.
An incision was made, and a buccal flap was raised.
Bone guttering and tooth sectioning were performed.
Tooth #48 was elevated in four pieces.
The area was curetted and irrigated with saline.
BSS x 04 was placed for primary closure.
Haemostasis was achieved.
