Chief Complaint
Patient complains of pain in the 1st quadrant.
Clinical Findings
Tooth #14 and #16: retained roots, very tender to percussion (TTP) and palpation (TTPp).
Tooth #14: mobility within normal limits (WNL).
Tooth #16: mobility I+ on buccal portion, with buccal abscess. Retained palatal root is very firm.
Both teeth deemed hopeless.
Treatment Plan
Local Anesthesia (LA) OP removal of teeth #14 and #16.
Pre-operative Assessment
Risks and procedures explained to the patient.
Need for CBCT scans advised.
Patient agreeable to treatment.
Pre-operative CBCT taken.
Surgery planned and patient agreed to proceed with treatment today.
Informed consent obtained.
Anesthesia
LA infiltration.
Surgical Procedure
1. Patient cleaned and draped.
2. Incision made, buccal flap raised.
3. Bone guttering performed.
4. Tooth #14 sectioned and elevated out in 2 pieces.
5. Tooth #16 sectioned and elevated out in 3 pieces.
6. Granulation tissue removed.
7. Gentle currettage performed.
8. Irrigation with saline.
9. BSS (biodegradable sutures) x 05 placed.
