Surgical Exposure (Gingivoplasty) of Unerupted #13

Surgical Procedure

Chief Complaint

Patient presented with concern of unerupted upper right canine (#13).

Clinical Findings

  • #23 (upper left canine) fully erupted.

  • #13 unerupted, covered by thick gingival tissue.

  • Eruption delayed and unable to match contra-lateral #23.

  • #13 positioned below gingival margin of #12.

Treatment Plan

  • Surgical exposure (gingivoplasty) of unerupted #13 to facilitate and accelerate eruption.

  • Risks, benefits, and procedures explained to patient and mother.

  • Quotation provided.

  • Informed consent obtained.

Pre-operative Assessment

  • Pre-op photographs taken.

  • No signs of active infection.

  • Medical history unremarkable.

Anesthesia

Local infiltration anesthesia administered around #13 region.

Surgical Procedure

  • Patient cleaned and draped under aseptic protocol.

  • Incision made and operculum overlying #13 removed.

  • 980nm Diode Laser used to recontour soft tissue and achieve hemostasis.

  • Vitamin E applied over the surgical site.

  • Post-operative instructions provided.

Post-operative Assessment

  • Post-op photographs taken.

  • Minimal bleeding, satisfactory healing observed.

  • Patient tolerated procedure well.
