Chief Complaint
Patient decided to have the removal of the retained root of tooth #35 today.
Clinical Findings
Tooth #35: Retained root.
Treatment Plan
Local anesthesia oral surgery (LAOP) removal of retained root #35.
Risks of paraesthesia to the lower lip and tongue, as well as oro-antral perforation (OAP) or oro-antral fistula (OAF), explained to the patient.
Pre-operative Assessment
Pre-operative CBCT taken.
Inferior dental nerve (IDN) plotted.
Close proximity to the mental nerve explained to the patient.
Patient understood and agreed to proceed with the treatment plan today.
Informed consent taken.
Anesthesia
Local anesthesia block (left IDN, LN, and LBN).
Surgical Procedure
Preparation:
Patient cleaned and draped.
Incision made, buccal and lingual flap raised.
Extraction:
Bone guttering performed.
Tooth sectioned.
#35 retained root elevated out in 2 pieces.
Curettage and irrigation with saline.
BSS x 03 placed for primary closure.
Haemostasis achieved, post-operative instructions (POI) given.
